Reconciliation in Action

The Government of the Northwest Territories believes that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action should help shape public discourse about the steps required to achieve reconciliation with Aboriginal Canadians.

The GNWT thanks the Commission and commends the many survivors who participated in this important work. We agree that this work must not be forgotten, but rather it should lead to further discussion and concrete steps to improve the lives of Aboriginal Canadians.

National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

UN Declaration Implementation Act

The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) Implementation Act moves the GNWT forward along the path of reconciliation by recognizing UNDRIP as the minimum standards required to protect the rights of Indigenous peoples of the NWT.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman and Girls

We are committed to working with all Northerners and with partners across Canada to begin to address systemic causes of violence, inequality, and racism so that Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people can feel safe and empowered in our territory and in our country.

Family Information Liaison Unit

Helping NWT families get information about what happened to missing and murdered loved ones.

Funding for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Funding is available to support events that commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

Special Events Fund

Financial assistance to NWT Indigenous Governments and Indigenous organizations for annual general assemblies, special assemblies, and other special events such as National Indigenous Peoples Day.
