The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the new Extended Health Benefits Program, which takes effect on September 3, 2024.
To apply, residents must:
Hold a valid NWT Health Care Card.
Not be eligible for benefits under the Métis Health Benefits or Non-Insured Health Benefits Programs.
Existing clients of the Extended Health Benefits for Specified Disease Conditions Program must apply by July 31, 2024, to ensure no gap in access to benefits.
Seniors currently accessing the Extended Health Benefits for Seniors Program do not need to apply. Their coverage remains unchanged.
The GNWT is making adjustments to the cost sharing arrangements for some income bands to reduce the impact of program changes for residents in the first year. More information will be made available soon.
The changes made to the Extended Health Benefits Policy have no impact on seniors aged 60 and older, as their current benefit levels remain unchanged. Similarly, there are no changes for residents who access Non-Insured Health Benefits and Métis Health Benefits.
