Fireworks Permitting
Any person who wishes to sell, offer for sale, give, purchase, possess, store or set off fireworks must submit an application to the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Apply to sell, purchase or set off fireworks
To sell, purchase or set off fireworks in the Northwest Territories, you must submit an application to your Regional Assistant Fire Marshal or community fire chief who is the Regional Assistant Fire Marshal's Local Assistant.
Fireworks distributors in the Northwest Territories (NWT) cannot sell fireworks to someone who does not have a properly filled out and approved Application to Purchase and Set Off Fireworks.

The Fire Prevention Act and Fireworks Regulations regulate the selling, purchasing and use of fireworks in the NWT.
“Fireworks” mean any substance, combination of substances or article prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect of combustion, explosion, deflagration or detonation and used for recreation or amusement, and includes cannon crackers, fire crackers, cherry bombs, showers, fountains, golden rain, lawn lights, pin wheels, roman candles, volcanoes, sparklers, rockets, serpents, shells, bomb shells, tourbillions, maroons, bouquets, barrages, bombardos, waterfalls, batteries, mines, illuminations, set pieces and pigeons.
